What is a Spontaneous Group?
We know that there are lots of people in our community who already enjoy physical activities. So, with this in mind, we’ve set up informal groups where people can ‘spontaneously exercise’ together.
It’s really simple ...
A member of the group puts up a message on the WhatsApp group
“I’m heading out for a swim at Avon Beach tomorrow at 10:00 – would anyone like to join me?”
Anyone who wants to join them replies
“Sounds great. I’ll see you there.”
It’s all very quick and easy - but we know these groups motivate people to exercise more, to generate friendships and to support each other.
What groups are there?
We currently have the following groups?
Running
Road cycling
Mountain biking (off road cycling)
Casual cycling
Sea Swimming
Pool Swimming
Kayaking & SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard)
Walking
In addition to our Spontaneous Walking Group (which we encourage you to join), we have a Connect Group for walkers. Check out godfirst.church/connectgroups to learn more.
I’m not sure whether I’d do very much - can I still join?
Of course! We’d love you to join and then you can just see what’s going on. If you want to join in then do. If you don’t then you don’t need to make any excuses or say anything. Just wait until there’s something you fancy.
How do I join?
There are two easy ways to join:
You can just send us an email to let us know (just click here and you won’t even need to type the email!)
Come and see Dave or Rachel Hairs on a Sunday and we can show you a QR code that you can scan with your phone to join. If you’re not sure who we are then just ask one of our Welcome team - they may even be able to show you the QR codes themselves.
I wish there was a Spontaneous Group for a different activity
Great! Please let us know and if there are a few people with the same interested then we’ll set it up and add it to this page.
