Thought for the day - Heaven 1

#

(Today's and tomorrow's "thoughts" are taken from my book "God's Way".)

How can I prepare myself for the Judgement Seat of Christ?

1. By judging myself objectively. "If we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world" (1 Cor. 11:31-32). If we don't take ourselves in hand and deal with heart issues displeasing to God, he will discipline us and we may lose some of our reward.

2. By allowing God's people to judge me. If our goal and ambition is to please him, and our deepest longing is to be transformed into his likeness, then we will seek to live as he lived. We will do what he did. Because we are not like him and because our hearts are "deceitful above all things" (Jer. 17:9), and because we are arrogant and self-pitying, we need to be open to the admonition of fellow believers (Col. 3:16). Ask others to speak into your life and bring correction. We all need this.

"Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day [the Judgment Day] drawing near (Heb. 10:24-25).

3. By allowing God's Word to judge me. It is a tremendous blessing to have access to the Bible. Create a habit of a life-time by seeking to read it every day. "The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword … it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart … Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account" (Heb. 4:12-13).

4. By cultivating a sense of urgency. Jesus told us to keep watch. Peter wrote: "The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray" (1 Pet. 4:7).  People are dying without Jesus every minute of every day. Life is short. Life is unpredictable. "Night is coming when no-one can work" (John 9:4). Jesus is coming soon (Rev. 22:6-7). You only have one life. Don't put off until tomorrow what should be done today.
