The Holy Spirit - Pentecost Sunday

What you will learn about today:  

One of the names of God is the Holy Spirit – he is our Helper and He lives in us, if we know and love Jesus.

Worship 

Sybil mentioned speaking in a heavenly language to help us with our praying and worshipping. Why not ask God for this gift from the Holy Spirit and you listen and sing along to this song.  It’s 10 mins long but it gives you time to really worship God.  Go for it! 

You could ask your parents to pray and worship with you too. 

Some verses to read, think and pray about. 

John 14.16, 17. I will ask the Father and He will give you another Helper. He will give you this Helper to be with you forever. The Helper is the Spirit of truth. ICB

John 14.26  the Helper will teach you everything. He will cause you to remember all the things I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name. ICB

Acts 1.4,5. Once when He was eating with them, He told them not to leave Jerusalem. He said, “The Father has made you a promise which I told you about before. Wait here to receive this promise ... in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit “ ICB

Acts 2.1-4  When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wing blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw something that looked like flames of fire. The flames were separated and stood over each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages. The Holy Spirit was giving them the power to speak these languages .ICB

In the book of Acts the Holy Spirit is working through people and doing amazing miracles and healings – you could have a read through the book this week and make a note of some of them that jump out at you.  Remember it is the same Holy Spirit at work in the world today – who could you pray for? Or is there a miracle you need God to do?

Activity for Younger Children 

We have learned that there are 3 forms of God. Can you name them? (Father, Jesus and HS)

and we have also learned that God has given us the Holy Spirit to help us.

Just as the rose has 3 parts, you can find water in 3 different forms. See if you can work out what those are. One is very cold. Brrrrr...

More Activities and Craft 

Building a Wall. 

Why don’t you start building a wall!  You can make or find some bricks and label each one with a different truth about God. Or a different name of God like Sybil did! 

Making a Dove 

In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is sometimes shown as a dove - check out these verses - Genesis 1:1, Genesis 8:8-12 and Matthew 3:16-17.

The Holy Spirit wants to live with us and speak to us.

Have a go at making a dove - you will need white paper and card - check out this example

Once you have made your dove, display it as reminder that God wants to be with you and speak to you - and spend time with Him listening to Him this week. A song you can listen to is "Holy Spirit"…..
