Thrive

We have been gifted the most incredible bodies and, through these bodies, we do great things.

A weekly exercise class with circuits, games, weights, skipping, battle ropes and other exercises that aim to get your heart pumping. Open to everyone - you work at your own intensity with options available for all exercises so that you can tailor your workout to your own need.
Low impact bodyweight and light weight based exercises to develop muscle strength and flexibility. You choose your own level and pace of exercise - so this can be all about flexibility or focussed on building strength but all done alongside a lovely group of people.
An early morning session combining bodyweight and light weight based exercises. After warm up there will be lots of interval style exercise to develop cardio, strength and flexibility. It's all done in just 45 minutes and then you can head out into the world and enjoy the rest of your day.
A Thursday lunchtime group session offering targeted resistance exercises, balance training and stretches to develop posture and range of movement. You might join us to help in your day to day life or perhaps to aid your recovery after an illness or surgery.
Would you like to make running a part of your lifestyle? We've led lots of people through the NHS Couch to 5k programme and would love to do this with you. If you're interested then we'd love to hear from you thrive(at)godfirst.church
The Thrive Team and many of our participants often take part in the Highcliffe Beach Park Run. If you're already a runner then why not join us. If not, why not do the Couch to 5k with us?!

What is Thrive?

Thrive is GodFirst Church’s physical wellbeing ministry. We are passionate about physical welling and are delighted to be able to serve the community in Christchurch.

We offer a selection of affordable exercise classes that will meet a variety of needs.

All sessions are designed and led by appropriately trained and qualified leaders.

Why does Thrive exist?

Our bodies are an amazing gift, unbelievable in their complexity. They are an incredible work of creation.

Our physical and mental wellbeing are closely linked and focussing some attention on your body can give life changing benefits to your overall wellbeing.

Thrive exists to help you to look after that gift, be more healthy, do more and get more from life.

Thrive is run by a small team who love the outdoors. We've found that focussing a little of our attention on our physical health has helped us to enjoy life and achieve more than we otherwise would have. This has been key in helping us to handle some of the challenges of life. We want to share this with you.

As a team we've successfully encouraged and helped many others to focus some attention on their own fitness and to bring some (or more) exercise into their lives. We’ve made great friends through this process and we've seen those friends Thrive. We want to you to be part of it.

Who is Thrive for?

Nearly 300 people have taken part in Thrive activities already - we’d love you to add to that number.

Do any of these apply to you?

  • You want to do some exercise but struggle to motivate yourself through the busyness of life?
  • You don't need convincing that some exercise would be a good thing but you're not sure what sort of exercise would suit you?
  • You want to spend a bit more time with others?
  • You haven’t exercised for a long time. You know it would be a good thing but you don’t know where or how to start?
  • You’ve found that getting healthy is expensive. Gym subscriptions and things like expensive trainers are a barrier. The investment in time is bad enough but the financial impact is a showstopper for you.
  • You have practical questions ... What should I wear? Am I too old? What if I'm not as fit as the others?

We can help you with all of these questions. You can sign up for a session and talk to us there or you can email any questions to us.

How much does it cost?

We don’t allow anyone to pay for their first session.

After your first session, and if you can afford it, we suggest a donation to our costs of £2 per session. This is genuinely optional and we don’t track who pays. You can contribute by cash or use contactless payment.

Funds are used to cover the cost of room hire, heating / air conditioning costs and for equipment. Any extra funds are passed on to GodFirst to support the work of the church. The Thrive team all give their time voluntarily
